KIN programme: ACT

Accelerating Just Climate Transitions in Urban Regions

experts discussing during the KIN pact event

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing our society. The impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly visible, even in the Netherlands. This work programme aims to accelerate just climate transitions in various neighbourhoods across the Netherlands.

Approach and methodology

Over the course of 3 years, researchers and local stakeholders, including residents, housing associations, officials, local entrepreneurs, and sustainability professionals, will join forces. In various neighbourhoods in Rotterdam, Nijmegen, Eindhoven, and South Limburg, local action trajectories and agendas will be developed, and collaboration facilitated to address previously disjointed efforts. Additionally, the work programme will deliver a generic approach with tools (training programmes, handbooks) to achieve just, climate-neutral, and climate-resilient neighbourhood transitions through co-design processes.

The KIN ACT work programme is the first work programme set up by the KIN and was officially launched in September 2024. ACT is based on co-creation; various scientists and participants from the field work together to develop local action plans and agendas and promote cooperation between concerned residents, housing associations, neighbourhood workers, civil servants, local entrepreneurs and sustainability professionals. ACT is part of the KIN Pact.
